Origin

Hyson : English:: 1: habitational name from Heysham (Lancashire) from Old English hǣs ‘brushwood’ or hǣse ‘land overgrown with brushwood’ + hām ‘village homestead’. In the surname the alteration of -s(h)am or -som to -son seems to have occurred quite late.2: variant of Ison with prosthetic H-.3: possibly a variant of the Somerset habitational name Haysom which may be from Haysend in Tamerton Foliot (Devon).
