Save our Graves: Cemeteries added to Geneanet in July 2022

Posted by Jean-Yves on Aug 4, 2022

Because cemeteries are one of the most important resources for genealogists, Geneanet has launched the project “Save our Graves” to capture graves before they are lost.

More than 4.5 million graves are already available!

Here are the cemeteries added in July 2022:

You can also participate in the preservation of cultural heritage with Geneanet by taking photos of graves. It’s easy with the GeneaGraves mobile app!

Thank you!

I have tried to upload graves in the Cemetaries of the Archdiocese of Chicago and have been told by the site that those Cemetaries were not recognized, and the photos could not be uploaded. The Archdiocese of Chicago is probably the largest group of Cemetaries in Illinois and perhaps the United States. Why will your site not accept them?

Answer from Geneanet: A cemetery has to be created before any grave photos can be added to it. If the cemetery is not listed, have you tried creating it? Go to the Upload a grave or memorial screen and click on “Add the cemetery if not listed.” Be sure to enter the street address of the cemetery, not the GPS coordinates of a particular grave. Once the cemetery is created, you should be able to add photos to it. If this doesn’t solve your problem, visit our forum which is monitored by support, or if you are a Premium member, open a support ticket. We can assist you in creating a cemetery if necessary.
