Pension Files Highlight Role of Women in Irish Wars and IRA’s 1922 Massacre

The stories of 600 women’s roles in the War of Independence and Civil War feature in the latest release of military service pension files. The files relate to 1,442 people who took part in the events and are accessible from this morning on the Military Archives website.

They form part of the Military Service (1916-1923) Pensions Collection (MSPC) project which began a decade ago to make available the records that help piece together events being remembered in the ongoing Decade of Centenaries.
