The website of the Archives Nationales of France is now available in English and Spanish.

The Archives nationales (French for “National Archives”) preserve the national archives of France, apart from the archives of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as these two ministries have their own archive services, the Service historique de la défense and the Archives diplomatiques respectively. The Archives nationales have one of the largest and most important archival collections in the world, a testimony to the very ancient nature of the French state which has been in existence for more than twelve centuries already.

Wonderful news. Some documents use “Old” French, which makes them a challenge to use.

I am seeking the date of death of an Australian Man named John Murray MacGregor who died at Dunkirk, France. Not war related , he was a civilian who married a French school teacher in 1919 after serving in WW1.They went on to manage an hotel. He was Mentioned in Despatches during the war and was an accountant by profession. Any help would be most welcome. Thank you
