One of the seminal American endorsements of religious freedom – a letter written in 1790 by George Washington – is locked away in storage. Would not the public benefit from the chance to view this national treasure?

Yes, and the Jewish Daily Forward newspaper has mounted a noble campaign to release the document from the vault to be displayed in a proper setting, as are the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
