All Geneanet members who uploaded some DNA raw data have received an email on November 20, 2023.
Why do you insist that all participants received the letters? I am telling you that I did NOT receive any letter. Are you accusing me of lying?
Also, since I didn't know that this feature was being closed, I recommended your site to other people as a DNA comparison service. Now I found myself in an awkward position in front of these people. Now I have to tell these people that I was wrong to recommend your site to them.
Your service is not working well. When you deny the obvious, you risk losing even more customers.
I'm very sorry, but that's how it is.
And... you didn't even apologize for your poor performance...

Dear Madam,

The email "Geneanet DNA features will be discontinued" has been sent to you on November 20, 2023 12:20:30pm (France time zone).

Maybe it's in your spam folder.

We understand that for those who use the DNA features, it has helped fuel discoveries. However, over the last several years, we have not seen the success we had hoped for and we have therefore made the difficult decision to stop Geneanet DNA features in order to concentrate on more promising services, better aligned with requests from our members.
Best wishes,

Jean-Yves BAXTER

So they stop doing DNA uploads yet have a "new" feature to find DNA matches on Genenet? Yeah, that makes complete sense

So I did not get notified either. I also would like to know what happened to my dna raw data? The member should have been able to delete themselves. This is beyond a personal break in trust by geneanet and what they originally promised when I uploaded. I would like a more indepth answer than just discontinued.

All raw DNA data has been erased from Geneanet's servers. The result is no different than if you deleted it yourself.

As for the "new feature" reference, I assume you are referring to an old blog post.

While I am not privy to the exact reasons for the removal of this tool, I can think of several factors:
- The DNA tool is expensive to run, both in development effort and server resources.
- The majority of Geneanet members are French and DNA "recreational" tests are illegal in that country. All testing companies have stopped shipping testing kits to French addresses.
- Before introducing the DNA service, Geneanet lobbied for the restriction to be lifted. It doesn't look like it will in the near future.

Given the high cost and relatively small user base, Geneanet's explanation makes sense.

I hope Geneanet considers bringing it back in the future. It's one of the most helpful features.

Dear Madam,

As announced on November 20, 2023, the Geneanet DNA section of the site has been removed on December 20, 2023, and all DNA raw data files have been permanently deleted the same day.

The email sent on November 20, 2023, to members who have uploaded DNA raw files to Geneanet said: "This discontinuation will take effect on December 20, 2023."

The blog post "Geneanet DNA features will be discontinued" says: "December 20, 2023: The Geneanet DNA section, the features and the associated data (DNA cousins list, raw data from your DNA provider) will be permanently deleted.": https://en.geneanet.org/genealogyblog/post/2023/11/geneanet-dna-features-will-be-discontinued

The blog post "Geneanet DNA: how to backup your data" says: "On December 20, 2023, the entire Geneanet DNA section of our site will be permanently deleted.": https://en.geneanet.org/genealogyblog/post/2023/11/geneanet-dna-how-to-backup-your-data

We are sincerely sorry that we can't provide a backup of your list of DNA cousins (including your notes) and the data concerning the matching chromosome segments of your DNA cousins.

We announced the closure of Geneanet DNA one month in advance, and our members were given 30 days to download their data.

The last 4 months I was involved in some family concerns and missed the DNA notice. I just renewed my subscription and afterwards notice no DNA hits. I will be closing my account and thank you for the great service until Ancestry became involved. The original concept for Geneanet is gone and so am I.
