Hello All

My name is John Nightingale.

Most of my male paternal ancestors were nail makers or nailors in Eckington and Belper. As I understand it, in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries nail making was what we would call an 'essential service' especially as most transport and travel was by horse, so nails for horseshoes was vital.

However, if anyone could provide more detailed information about the nail making industry, especially in Derbyshire, I would be eternally grateful.

Regards

John
