German occupation in French

I have several German records from the Rheinland that was under French rule in the early 1800s. The language is in French and the occupation is written as "voiturier". The literal translation could be either a person taking care of another (usually well to do person), or a person that watches/drives a carriage. Since they are all from a small town, neither of these seems reasonable, although I guess they could be a carriage driver.  Any other possibilities?

I think there's no other option because "voiturier" is only having one definition for me : taking care of other cars and drive for someone (usually an important person).
I can't really understand the first definition you mentionned. For me there's only one definition to "voiturier" (I'm French  )
