Searching for information about the family of Alexander Jean Baptiste BECH, a butcher, of Salernes, Var, France. He married Leonide MARCEL in Salernes. Their first son, Jules, was born 5 August 1847 in Salernes. Their second son was born shortly after their arrival in Donaldsonville or New Orleans in 1849. Alexander's father may have been Francois Bech. The family may also have lived in Entrecasteau,Var, France.

Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so very much for your help. I couldn't remember how to get back on this site, which is why is has taken so long for me to answer. I have gone through so many pages of French actes that my head is spinning. I don't know quite what they say, but hopefully I have been able to understand the basics. Jules Bech, who was born in Salernes on 5 August 1847, is my great grandfather. I now have him and his father Francois. Do you know how I can go further back in the records? I am probably not accessing the site correctly.

Again, thank you so much for your help!!

Thanks for your feedback.

Salernes civil and church registers are available here, since 1517
https://archives.var.fr/arkotheque/consult_fonds/fonds_seriel_resu_rech.php?ref_fonds=2

As previously mentioned,
François BECH, 26, farmer, born in Salernes on 26th December 1779, son of Jacques BECH and Marie Marguerite PAILLE his wife

You need to find first his birth record, and then the marriage record of his parents.
Unfortunately before the french Revolution, there is no table and you need to search the registers page by page.

Dear Capsi, you have unearthed a treasure for me! I can't thank you enough.

I am going to be greedy and try to find my Boucher ancestors next (probably from Preny, Meurthe et Moselle).

Wish me luck. I admit sometimes I can't even find the little pointing arrow on my computer. Getting old, I guess!

My whole family thanks you!!! We have been in the dark for so long!!!
