Dear members,

If you have some places:
- Listed in the "Family Tree > Import/Export a GEDCOM File > Check Family Tree > Places not Mapped" menu option while the place names actually exist
- Not correctly displayed in your family tree map or timeline

It means that the geographic coordinates of these places are not in our database, or that the process failed to find these places.

Please post here:
- The address (url) of the Wikipedia page for these places so we can get all the needed information
- If there's no Wikipedia page available, the Google Maps address (url) of these places, or the GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude in decimal degrees, for example: 40.741895,-73.989308) and the name of country/state/province/county...
- The variants of the place names if there are some

If there are too many places, just post a message and we will have a look at your data.

Here are some tips that may help you enter the place names in your family tree:
- From left to right, enter the entity names from the smallest to the largest, separated by a comma or by parenthesis (for example: parish, city/town, county, state, country)
- If the name of an entity must not be used by the geolocation process or indexed by the Geneanet search engine, you can enter it between brackets (for example: [hamlet] - city/town, state, country)
- The name of country is not required if it's the same as the Default Country Code entered at https://en.geneanet.org/mon_compte/profilegen
- You must use the actual geographical area (state, country) instead of the historical one
- If the name of a place has changed, you can enter "former place name (new place name), state, country"
Best wishes,

Jean-Yves BAXTER

The majority of places in my database are not being correctly placed or not at all. Google maps is a modern place name database. It fails to take into consideration historical names. I have used Italian touring maps for locations. I work the Bettola, Piacenza area. My tree is named Bettola. Most people who look at my tree understand my place name location. Like Pradello. Google maps has that incorrectly pinned. .

Google maps doesn’t deal with historical place names. It only works with current place names. Navtec locations are more in line with what I use. For instance Pradello, Piacenza Italy on google maps is incorrect. I have bought this problem to their attention and so fa no connection.

I see a mistake here in the Provincia (Pizcenza) :
https://gw.geneanet.org/barbieri1?iz=124&n=agostini&oc=0&p=luigia&type=fiche
https://gw.geneanet.org/barbieri1?lang=en&pz=luigi+benvenuto+guglielmo&nz=barbieri&p=domenica&n=anselmi
Here the full list to be fixed :
https://framabin.org/p/?4f2448f7bf89b1b6#NMa9GwpNZh+mMghzvsHFUVRGr/DP2EGbYd77s5N2ACA=

Also there is a lot of people with :
"Provincia. di Piacenza"
(a dot after Provincia). It's better with no dot.
Here an example :
https://gw.geneanet.org/barbieri1?lang=en&pz=luigi+benvenuto+guglielmo&nz=barbieri&p=giovanni&n=freschi&oc=3
(however i've found a way to fix it).

Concerning the people living in "Nogent-sur-Marne" :
https://gw.geneanet.org/barbieri1?iz=124&n=taravella&oc=0&p=maria+maddalena&type=fiche
"Nogent sur Marne, Parigi, France."

It should be :
"Nogent sur Marne, Val-de-Marne, France"
or
"Nogent sur Marne, 94052, France"

Could you help to find those places :
ITAEROPIA|Calenzano;1696
ITAEROPIA|Macerato;483
ITAEROPIA|Pradello;391
ITAEROPIA|Macerato di Coli;196

Others fix :
FRA|Rouchin, Nord. France.;1;
-> "Ronchin, Nord, France"
FRA|Champigno sur Marne, France.;1;
-> "Champigny-sur-Marne, Val-de-Marne, France"

Sincerely yours,

Jacques

I use several search engines. All places were located. I am not going to tell you where they are located. I am amazed that you can’t find them.

Dear Sir,

I'am really sorry if i have upset you with my message and that you feel i'am wasting your time.

I'am trying to answer to your request to fix the place names not mapped.

I've already worked to fix many cases.

I don't want to do mistakes that why i'am looking for your help.

What seems obvious for you, is not for me.

We have a huge database of all the municipality and plenty of places of Italy but not all the hamlets. We are using geonames and we are carefully adding places.

For example, you have a Calenzano in Piacenza.

I've found this one but not in Piacenza :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calenzano

I guess it's not the good one.

For Macerato i've found this one :
https://www.google.fr/maps/@44.8020745,9.4952406,17z
is it ok ?

For Pradello, it seems to be in Bettola. But where is it exactly ?

Sincerely yours,

Jacques

I am currently going through my place names. I am attempting to stream line my listing to agree with google maps and at the same time maintain the historical name. I hope to repost my tree sometime today. Bear with me. I always check with navtec (garmin) and google to places. My area is in the Bettola, coli, farini, Piacenza region.

Let me know once you have update your tree.

I've not yet transfer the updated recognition database on Geneanet.

The best way is to write :
Historical Place, New Place, Piacenza, Italie
Hamlet, New Place, Piacenza, Italie
or
Historical place (New Place), Piacenza, Italie

If the hamlet is not in our database (we can add it on request), then the geolocalisation is done in the new place.

Could you answer to my questions ?

Sincerely yours,

Jacques

I am using current place names with names like parrocchia di Pradello I use Pradello, Parrocchia di, It will take time but I just posted a new tree. It is not complete. By the way Pradello is next to the home of cristoforo Columbus family near Bettola. I took a picture of the Highway sign. So it is Pradello. Google maps is wrong. Look at find a grave.

Could you also give me an answer for Calenzano and Macerato :

I've found this one but not in Piacenza :
