DNA tests

Post by rsample »

Greetings,
I would like to purchase a DNA test. I was born in the US, but my ancestors immigrated from Prussia and Germany in the 1850's. I am not able to trace any relatives beyond my great grand parents when they shipped out from Hamburg to the US. I am curious if there has been much success connecting family between USA and Europe using the DNA test from GENEANET?

Does one need to join with a membership prior to purchasing the DNA test?

Geneanet does not sell any DNA test kits. They allow you to upload the raw data from any of the main test companies (MyHeritage, 23andMe, LivingDNA, FamilyTreeDNA or AncestryDNA). See https://en.geneanet.org/dna/help/ for details.

We definitely have found cousins on both sides of the pond via Geneanet, even though its DNA service is new. The trick is to find out HOW you are related. And once you have your raw DNA data, you can upload it to some of those other companies to increase your chances of finding cousins.
