Unable to View/Edit Online Family Tree

I am having the same problem as reported: "There is no contact with GeneaNet so I hope someone out there can help". (from Wizard Access password on: 26 March 2010, 01:56:19)

I tried: Tickets Contact let you post an email to the GeneaNet staff to have a private talk. They are available to GeneaNet Club Privilege Members only.

Well, I am a Privelege Member but.... nothing yet!

Trying to resolve the above referenced problem with the View/Edit screen myself, I checked this forum and found a possible solution login as "Wizard" base on:

How to save edits in online tree « on: 16 February 2011, 21:19:18 »

I cannot get my online tree to accept any updates.  I have no wizard access button to press on the left hand side of the page.  If I log in as Wizard, what is the password?  I am trying this out with a view to subscribing but if updating information is so hard, I don't think I will!!!  Somebody please help me.

GeneaNet: 'Friend' And 'Wizard' Access Rights. 'Wizard' access rights allow to edit a GeneaNet online family tree (only in expert mode, i.e. GeneWeb). 'Friend' access rights allow to view private data in a GeneaNet online family tree.

"Can't find Wizard"
« Reply #1 on: 18 March 2010, 11:28:19 » "Wizard Access" is not available in the Basic Family Tree but only in the Expert Online Family Tree (GeneWeb).

You can switch to the Expert Online Family Tree (GeneWeb) at http://my.geneanet.org/geneweb/configuration_nv.php3.

I tried switching but I got:

"Error 404: File Not Found
We were unable to find the file or the page you requested"

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Sorry for the short delay.

You are using our new software and there is no 'Wizard' access in it. You can update your family tree at http://my.geneanet.org/arbre/mon_arbre.php.

The 'Wizard' access is only available in GeneWeb. To switch from the software you are using to GeneWeb, you must:
- export a GEDCOM file from your family tree at http://my.geneanet.org/arbre/save.php
- delete your curent family tree at http://www.geneanet.org/arbre/options/delete
- then import your GEDCOM file at http://my.geneanet.org/arbre/mon_arbre.php

VERY IMPORTANT: If you upload a GEDCOM file, you can't use the new software (the one you are actually using) but only GeneWeb.

Please tell me if you need more informations.

Yes JYB, before I take further action I have some additional questions:

1) What is the difference between using the "new software" and "GeneWeb"? Advantages? Disadvantages? Shouldn't the information about these two different softwares be included in "FAQ"?

2) How do you enter a  Before Christ (B.C.) date?

I hope you answer within a shortest delay because due to time differences (sometimes I am in U.S. Pacific standard time and sometimes in U.S. Eastern standard time) to me, the delay does not seem to be so short.

Thank you and have a niceday.com

What I call the "new software" is the software with the easier to use interface. GeneWeb is more comprehensive but more difficult to use for beginners.

You can't enter a date B.C. in the "new software" but you can do it in GeneWeb. I'll ask the developpers if they can have a look at this.

We are actually restructuring our website and the FAQ will be updated. The new website will launch on March 21.

Jean-Yves,

When you say: "GeneWeb is more comprehensive" are you implying that this program is better than "new software"? Is it possible to test GeneWeb or to test drive the "new website" that will be launch on March 21?
GeneWeb allows you to enter "B.C." dates. I wonder what other important functions the user friendly "new software" does not have.

I understand that you try to respond to the average user. But, I used to work as a web designer. I may not need necessarily, be considered to be a "beginner".
I am aware though that technology keeps advancing. We all, at some point, might become beginners again.

Thank you

I suggest that you try the two softwares and that you choose the one you prefer.

Hi Again,

Have followed the suggestions listed and I uploaded My Tree again, but still not viewable. I have looked at the Tools and did some more tweaking, but no results.
