Hello,

Could you give a link to the register, or a larger photo?

Here is part of the record, which is in Spanish, where the name of the city appears:
The family names are in French.
Merci !

Difficult to say, it looks like Clermont although the last letter doesn't look like a "t". Besides there are many Clermont in France...
Do you have the names of the parents?

Hello Claudine,

I also thought the city was Clermont. The last “hanging” letter seemed to be a t.

At this point, the only assistance I need is identifying the city that appears in this record.

Merci to all !!

His father was Juan (Jean) Chevalier and his mother Maria Magdalena (Marie Magdalene) Sabol. He was born in the late 1700s or very early 1800 in France.

OK I read CHAVALIER not CHEVALIER, but it doesn't matter

there's is a marriage which could be the good one.

2 trees mention this family :

Joseph CHABALIER with Marie SABOUL on the 20 th April 1779 in Ailhon (Ardèche)

they don't indicate a child Jean-Baptiste

Here, the word seems a bit too short to be "Clermont".

There is also a city named "Clémont" in France. For Clermont, you can find a list of all the french cities with this name, here.

I don't think you should focus on deciphering the last lettter.
S or T doesn't matter,
  • - firstly because the document was written by a non native speaker, who probably didn't know the correct spelling for this city,
    - and secondly because it's an old document, and both suffixes -mons en -mont have the same meaning (the first is the early, latinized form of the latter).
Cordialement

Bonjour Jean-Philippe,

"Clémont" was another city name I had considered as a possibility. Thank for providing the link to all the cities in France that have this name and the additional information regarding a final S or T.

Merci,
Elena
