Identifying Sources

I am new to genealogical research and have posted my family tree without identifying any sources, which I have kept in an external file. I am using Gramps. What is the rule of thumb as to when to use "References", "Notes", "Source", "Source Notes", "Source Citation", or "Attributes"? I have, for example: obituaries published in newspapers, personal correspondence with family members, immigration index documents, company Web sites with information on the history of the founders (who are family), audio recordings by individuals from archives, and personal photographs of individuals and gravestones.
