Let's preserve the graves of our ancestors: photograph them!

Since cemeteries are one of the most important resources for genealogists, Geneanet has launched the project 'Save our Graves' to photograph graves before they are lost. More than 6 million graves are already available!

Select the cemetery where you want to photograph graves... and check first that it is not already photographed!

Choose how you want to do it

Method #1

Photograph graves with a smartphone

  • Go to a nearby cemetery, launch the app, select a project or create a new one, then take as many pictures as you want.
  • Once you're back home, upload the pictures to your Geneanet account via a Wi-Fi access point. These pictures will be free for every Geneanet member.

Method #2

Photograph graves with a digital camera

  • Go to the selected cemetery and take pictures of graves. Take a general picture and photograph all sides of the grave if needed so all names and information can be read. Use the maximum resolution of your camera. Don't rename or crop your image files. Click the link below to use our interface and upload your pictures.

Some tips for taking pictures

Be sure to take a photo of the full grave, and as many photos as necessary so that all the names and details of the grave can be seen. Of course, focus on old graves.

This collaborative database provides pictures of graves and commemorative monuments on which the name of your ancestors may be found.
