Welcome to Geneanet! We hope that you will find many new ancestors and living relatives!
Geneanet was launched in 1996 by genealogy enthusiasts to help family history researchers sharing their data and it was an instant success. We wanted our users to pay only if they want and that’s why we created the Premium service. Most of the website pages and features are available for free but you can take advantage of Ad-Free browsing, more effective search engine and access to additionnal records by subscribing to the Premium. Today, Geneanet is the first French genealogy website and the company has 25 employees.
Free or paid genealogy website?
Geneanet offers every kind of genealogy record published by researchers, genealogy societies, commercial companies, etc. Data submitters decide if they want to give a free or paid access to their information. But most of it is available for free to every Geneanet member and you will never be charged without your authorization.
What you can expect to find here?
- The Geneanet members are sharing more than 400 million individuals in their Online Family Trees. We suggest that you contact other members to find and share ancestors.
- Hundreds of thousands free digitized archival records and hundreds of mostly free digitized registers are available.
- Geneanet members are also sharing their indexes for free and some genealogy society indexes are available in paying access.
- You will finally find hundreds of thousands digitized books (paying access), postcards and family picture (free), a wiki, a blog, a genealogy community, etc.
Feel free to use our forum to post questions and engage in discussions related to Geneanet specifically and genealogy in general.
