Posted by admin on Mar 14, 2014

Already have your family tree in a personal genealogy software? No need to build it from scratch on Geneanet! Just export a GEDCOM file from your genealogy software and import it to Geneanet.

GEDCOM (an acronym standing for GEnealogical Data COMmunication) is a specification for exchanging genealogical data between different genealogy software. It was developed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

Most genealogy software supports importing from and/or exporting to GEDCOM format. Here are some screenshots to explain how to export a GEDCOM file from your genealogy software.

Alma, you cannot really export Gedcom files from familysearch.org website in one operation.
But you can use a free software as describe here : https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Talk:GEDCOM. From the softwares in the list, you have a option to connect to your familysearch account to import all the data then export through the same software a Gedcom. But keep in mind than with this operation you will lose some data such as some source attached, multimedia data etc.
This kind of datas must been attached again to geneanet.
regards.

when i import a gedcom file , i got mistakes in family relations. 2 (from 8) brothers got a new mother which was unexisted (!!). other brothers related to the real mother
