When you are visiting a family tree, you can now add a Personal Note to any individual.
This new feature is very useful for genealogists as you can take notes in the GeneaNet family trees and look them up later.
Other GeneaNet members can add Personal Notes to your own family tree.
Of course, these notes are not added to your genealogy data. They only are personal notes attached to your family tree.
Adding a Personal Note
When you are visiting a family tree, you can now add a Personal Note to any individual. Just click the ‘Note’ icon at the top right of the screen.
By default, Personal Notes are private so the Family Tree Owner can’t read it.
This will open a new window with a plain text editor where you can quickly enter your note.
If you have a Guest or an Admin Access Right to the family tree, you can make the Personal Note available to the Family Tree Owner (uncheck the ‘Private Note’ option). This option is not available if you only have a Visitor Access Right to the family tree.
When clicking the ‘Submit’ button, you will be asked if you want to send a copy to the Family Tree Owner (it’s optional).
When adding a Personal Note, the icon is changing so you can easily remember it next time you go to this page.
To view all of the Personal Notes you have added to a family tree, click the ‘Personal Notes’ link in the left sidebar.
Of course, other GeneaNet members can add Personal Notes to your own family tree.
Members with a ‘Guest’ or an ‘Admin’ Access Right to your family tree can also add Personal Notes you can read.
Manage your Personal Notes
Select the ‘Personal Notes’ item in the drop down menu at the top right of the screen.
You can read and delete all the Personal Notes you have added to family trees and the Personal Notes other members have added to own your family tree (except private notes).
In a Personal Note, just click the name of the individual to be automatically redirected to the page in the family tree.
