A family has been named the most courageous in Britain after being awarded a record breaking three Victoria Cross Medals for acts of bravery in battle. In just two generations of the Gough family, three male members were awarded the VCs for acts of ‘extreme gallantry and devotion to duty in the face of the enemy’.
The heroic exploits of the Gough family are detailed in a new guide, which lists all 1,353 recipients of the country’s highest military honour for the first time. The online database, by family history website ancestry.co.uk, contains a detailed description of their heroic acts and where they are buried.
