A council is to exhume the body of a woman buried in the wrong grave for seven years. Irene Cheevers said she was “gobsmacked” when she was visited by Cookstown District Council (England) officials on the anniversary of her aunt’s death and was told she had been interred in the wrong plot.
Ina Cheevers died, aged 83, on January 17, 2003 and for seven years her niece and next-of-kin, Irene, had been tending the grave in the council-run cemetery on Westland Road. She had erected a small plaque with her aunt’s name engraved on it as a memorial to her.
